Smart Infrastructure

Calgarians spend far too much time in traffic and in the winter we are at the mercy of the city to clear the streets of snow. We can do better:

Roads and public transportation systems need to be built alongside new communities – not years later.
We need to build our infrastructure right the first time and plan for the future to save money on extremely expensive upgrades.
Snow removal in our city is a farce. We can’t cross our fingers and hope for a Chinook every time a big snowfall occurs. We need to clean the streets, keep people safe, and get them to work on time.

Calgary is a world class city but when visitors leave they often comment on how poorly planned our infrastructure is. We can fix this and get Calgary growing in the right way.

Hard Working Families

Calgary was built by its people, not by politicians. As your Alderman, Richard will listen to you and never take your vote for granted. Richard will:

Truly listen to your concerns and return your phone calls and emails
Take your advice and ideas with him to City Hall and see that they are heard in Council
Respect your tax dollars by only using his office budget to communicate with citizens and to do his job rather than spending it on wasteful entitlements like dry cleaning or Bernard Callebaut chocolates (as our current Alderman has done)

Preston Manning believed in government that listened to the common sense of the common people, a principle Richard will take with him to City Hall.

Taxes

City Hall is full of wasteful spending, including the $25 million dollar designer footbridge and the thousands of tax dollars Linda Fox-Mellway spends on Bernard Callebaut chocolates and dry cleaning. Richard proposes:

Ending taxpayer funded dry-cleaning and other personal expenses which Aldermen have billed the taxpayer for
Putting new infrastructure projects up for competitive tendering so that Calgarians see the best value for their money
Doing an operational review on current spending to eliminate waste, duplication, and unnecessary red tape

Richard will fight to end wasteful spending and bring in tough accountability rules so that Calgarians can keep more of their tax dollars in their pockets.

Safe Neighbourhoods

Richard has worked with federal Conservative Members of Parliament to strengthen our criminal justice system and will continue to advocate for common sense justice at City Hall.

Richard’s plan to keep our streets safe consists of:

Working with police to ensure they have what they need to keep our streets safe and our communities gang free
Continuing to work with federal and provincial elected representatives to get tough on violent criminals and sex offenders
Clean up our C-Train stations so that Calgarians feel safe taking public transportation at night

We don’t need a new twenty five million dollar designer bridge – what we need is a new Alderman to bridge the disconnect between City Hall and Calgarians.
